“The hidden root does not ask for any reward for filling the branch with fruits.”
It's been a long time since I last wrote a post, but this quote from Rabindranath Tagore, which a dear friend said yesterday in a speech, made me reflect on the importance of what is not seen. The essential and most valuable things are often hidden. Even on the skin.
The roots of a tree, though invisible, are fundamental to its growth and health. Similarly, in beauty, what really matters is not necessarily what is shown externally, but the essence, naturalness and authenticity that lies beneath a person.
The goal of beauty should not be recognition or likes. It is about a beauty that comes from within, without the need for excessive embellishment or artifice. The healthy, simple beauty I promote flows from a life well lived, from authenticity, health, and connection with oneself and others.
Yesterday, during my friend's speech, we connected deeply with who she really is and what she represents to us. She is one of the most beautiful people I know, precisely because of her modesty and humility in everything she does, including her beauty that is authentic and unpretentious. Although that is precisely what makes her never go unnoticed. Often, the most beautiful things are those that do not seek to stand out or be recognized, but simply exist in their purest and most natural form.
I'm not talking about neglecting yourself or abandoning your skin. Never! It's wonderful to take care of yourself and others without flaunting it or expecting anything in return. This perspective can foster a deeper appreciation for inner beauty, health, and authenticity, rather than focusing solely on external appearance.
I think it is a mistake to seek beauty only with the aim of impressing others, of gaining recognition or empty friendships. Tagore's phrase invites us to value the beauty that comes from the essential and the authentic, and to recognize that true beauty does not need ostentation or recognition to be significant and powerful.
Invest time in taking care of your roots, your true friends, your mind, your health and you will see how all of this will be reflected in your skin. Today I woke up feeling immensely lucky to have friends who inspire such positive feelings in me, who know how to say the perfect words to make others happy and who spread happiness in a discreet and simple way, without asking for anything in return. Today I woke up feeling simply beautiful.
Thank you, Marta, for being part of my life!
